Panama Festivals

The southernmost country of Central America, Panama offers travelers a vibrant mix of cultural influences to enjoy. And with its splendid biodiversity and captivating natural beauty, there is no shortage of places to go and things to see. One of the best events of the year to visit, though, is the annual Boquete Panama Flower and Coffee Festival.

Boquete Panama

The quaint and charming mountain village of Boquete is situated on the eastern slopes of Volcan Baru. The city is famous for its magnificent coffee plantations, which are recognized by international enthusiasts and conservationists. The delicious coffee found in Boquete is picked by the Guaymi Indians starting in October and lasting all the way through February. In general, the coffee picking season is regarded as a fun and festive time when Indian families harvest coffee cherries in various parts of the province. When visitors travel to Panama, they can take guided tours through the coffee estates and learn about the origins of their much needed caffeine. While traversing these tours, visitors can also catch a glimpse of the exotic bird life in the area.

Boquete Panama offers visitors a truly amazing experience. From exploring local finca farms to hiking to the summit of the Baru Volcano, visitors are sure to find beautiful flora and fauna everywhere they turn. In short, eco-tourism is definitely on top of the list of activities for anyone who visits Boquete. Travellers can go whitewater rafting amid the tropical mountains or take a relaxing tour to the Caldera Hot Springs. Additionally, there is a vast array of lodges and hotels to stay at as well as plenty of shopping, sightseeing and restaurants to enjoy.

Boquete Flower and Coffee Fair

There are many different Panama events, festivals and fairs celebrated throughout the year on a grand scale. One of the most well-known fairs is the Feria de la Flores y del Café – or Flowers and Coffee Fair in English – which takes place at the local fairgrounds in the middle of January. It is one of the biggest celebrations of flowers in the world and attracts thousands of people every year who are looking to experience the beauty of this Panama event. Exquisite flower displays and lush landscape designs fill the Boquete Flower and Coffee Fair throughout the ten days it runs. Local residents also decorate their homes and gardens to add to the colorful atmosphere of the festivities.

Coffee also plays a significant role in the festivities. There are plenty of organized tastings of local java and the coffee can be bought by the cup or by the bag. Other popular attractions of the Boquete Flower and Coffee Fair include live music, food stands, and amusement rides.

Flower exhibits are on show daily from January to April, and the entrance fee is generally only one dollar. Also, a festival similar to the Boquete Flower and Coffee Fair is held in mid-April, but on a much smaller scale.
